As we already stated in a previous Freshome post, being at the Furniture Fair in Milan also meant seeing some really cool showroom designs. We took a few pictures of the arrangements and we thought they could be a good inspiration for interior home design as well. Take this really cool fringe ideas for example. The original curtains could act as dividing walls between two portions of a room, or as locker doors. In the pictures below you will see various designs, each one more original than the next. The irregular shapes are the best, though. You can find similar ideas by simply doing a google search on the net. You will find a large market variation and a generous color palette. The prices are not that high either. Enjoy the photos!

Here is an unusual bookcase we happened to come across at Milan. Imitating the color of wood, but with a completely different finish, this cardboard shelving system could make for a really original furniture element. It acts like a common bookcase and it is able to store books, Cd’s and other small decorative items. We also like the fact that the visible surface contains random letters- from our point of view, this is a hint of what the product should house and a very creative approach as well. One could even say it has a story to tell. Its downside is probably the fact that it has no enclosed shelves, but it is a cool idea nonetheless.

This weird couch was the first design we saw at the Milan Furniture Fair. It was situated near the entrance, in a neutral place and we think it didn’t just come with the fair, but this is its permanent location. If there is anyone of you out there from Milan participating in other events at Rho Fiera, perhaps you can enlighten us. This item really captivated Michael who captured it in this photo, but wasn’t intrigued enough to go check out how it feels to sit on it. This curious looking sofa would fit in a large living room, next to a weird shaped coffee table. It doesn’t look very comfy, but the funny/unusual idea behind the design makes up for that.

Remember these phones? Well, for the ones who don’t, this is what we used to use in the 20 th century src='http://freshome.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' title="Old Phone Clock Design, Milan 2010" /> This idea we saw at Milan was the only one to bring as back in time, as every other design reflected opulence and modernity. Which is why we picked it as a display item for today. The clock is placed where the dialing numbers used to be which we consider to be quite cool. This could always work as a museum-like home item and a definite guest puzzler. We imagine this is the only version of the unusual clock, but we think it would be interesting for it to become produced at a large scale. Sure, Eastern European countries would not go for such a design, but perhaps it would work in technology saturated environments.
