Modern interior dcor can be achieved with sleek, strong lines, and minimalism.Through the use of materials, color, and rich interiors, modern decor is as stylish as you want to make it. The focus in modern decor is in the styling and atmosphere of the spaces. Here are some ways that you can achieve contemporary style in your home.

COUCH/CHAIRS: In modern decor, furniture has strong linear form, and absence of ornamentation. Modern interiors have only the essential pieces of furniture. When choosing couches and chairs, modern styling may include the illusion of floating” horizontal planes. Bulky, furniture is replaced with sleek and refined materials. The use of leather, micro-fiber, tweed, and tightly woven fabrics makes furniture sophisticated and durable. Consider your space to furnish, and include only enough pieces to fit the function of the space. Modern decor’s appeal is the feeling of airiness, space and light.

Heavy blinds, drapery and puffy curtains are too ornamental and heavy looking for contemporary styling. Minimalism is achieved more easily when an abundance of light fills the room. If living in a smaller home, use less furniture and this will visually open up the room. Even though light may not be abundant, the use of lighter colors and less furnishings will instantly make windows seem brighter.

A wall that blocked the view to the family room was removed. After the dining room entrance was relocated, the cooking area could be placed against the back wall to create a delightful backdrop for this state-of-the-art design. Clover and Grass Gate

Adam says that gates can welcome people rather than act as barriers. Gates should be tactile and enjoyable. They should foster a feeling of excitement as you stand on the threshold. To open and close is the fundamental function of a gate, but they must do so perfectly and interestingly. Ironwork is like jewellery. Gates in front of a house give you a feeling about the person who commissioned the work, rather like a person wearing contemporary jewellery, it is a way of expressing individuality. Adam Booth

Flat Renovation in Barcelona, Based on Strong Visual Effects

We thought it was time to showcase another flat renovation on Freshome in order to give you some fresh ideas. From studio Miel Arquitectos comes an apartment makeover which we find to be quite original. The project was named “Santpere47″ and has a lot of interesting features. Golden lines and circles create a playful wall design which is very inviting to observe. The ceiling is particularly captivating, as the pattern is unusual and reminds one of royalty chambers. Storage space is provided unconventionally: there is a bookcase under the stairs and a few spots within the walls where objects can be placed. The lighting system in this apartment is also worth a second look: the pendant lamps are subtle and elegant and we were impressed by the staircase lamps. The decorating items are in complete harmony with the overall feel of the home. And if you look closely, you will also see the “Drop XL” coat hanger which we presented in a previous post called 25 of the Most Creative Wall Hook Designs. Let us know if you recognize other designs as well.-via Platforma Arquitectura
